How to Fix Your Google Business Profile (and Show Up on Google Maps) in Las Vegas
A step-by-step walkthrough of the exact fixes I make to client Google Business Profiles to push them into the Las Vegas Google Maps 3-pack.
If you own a local business in Las Vegas, your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the single most important piece of your marketing. Forget your website for a second — the map pack at the top of Google decides who gets called and who gets ignored for "plumber near me," "restaurants near me," "med spa Las Vegas," and every other local search.
Here's the exact playbook I run when I take over a client's GBP, in the order I do it.
Step 1: Claim and verify your profile
Go to business.google.com and search for your business name. If it already exists (which it probably does — Google generates profiles automatically for many businesses), claim it. Verify by postcard, phone, video, or email depending on what Google offers.
If two profiles exist for your business, you have a duplicate. Use the GBP support flow to merge them — duplicates split your reviews and tank your ranking.
Step 2: Pick the correct primary category
This is the single biggest ranking factor in GBP and the single most common mistake. Google has thousands of categories. Pick the most specific one that fits your business — not the most generic.
- You're a Mexican restaurant? Pick "Mexican restaurant," not "Restaurant"
- You're an Invisalign provider? "Orthodontist" beats "Dentist"
- You're a med spa that does Botox? "Medical spa" beats "Skin care clinic"
Then add 3-5 relevant secondary categories — but don't overdo it. Too many irrelevant secondary categories can dilute your ranking.
Step 3: Nail your business name, address, and phone
Your name on GBP must match exactly what's on your signage, your website, and your other listings. Stuffing keywords in your business name (like "Vegas Best Plumber Inc") used to work and now gets you suspended. Just use your real business name.
Make sure your address and phone number are identical across your website, GBP, Yelp, Facebook, and other directories. Inconsistencies hurt local ranking more than people realize.
Step 4: Write a real business description
You get 750 characters. Use them. Write in plain English about what you do, who you serve, and what neighborhoods/cities (Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, Spring Valley, North Las Vegas, etc.). Don't keyword-stuff. Google's algorithm penalizes that now.
Step 5: Upload 20+ real photos
Profiles with 100+ photos get on average 520% more calls than profiles with 0. Upload your storefront, your team, your work, your space, and your products. Real photos beat stock every time. Add 2-3 new photos per month forever — Google's algorithm rewards activity.
Step 6: Turn on every relevant attribute
Wheelchair accessible? Veteran-owned? Women-owned? Online appointments? Free WiFi? Outdoor seating? Turn on every attribute that's true. Google uses these to rank you for specific filtered searches.
Step 7: Build a Services or Menu list
Restaurants get a menu section. Service businesses get a Services section. Fill them out completely with names, descriptions, and prices when appropriate. This is more local SEO real estate that nobody fills out, and it directly affects which searches you rank for.
Step 8: Post Google Posts every week
Google Posts are like mini Twitter posts that appear on your GBP. Most businesses ignore them. The ones that post weekly get better engagement and slightly better rankings. Post events, offers, new services, photos — anything fresh.
Step 9: Build a steady review flow
Aim for 5+ new Google reviews per month, every month, forever. Use a simple system: when you finish a job or a customer pays, send a text with a direct review link. Respond to every single review — good and bad — within 48 hours. Reviews are a top-3 ranking factor and the #1 trust signal for new customers.
Step 10: Answer questions and monitor Q&A
The Q&A section on your GBP is open — anyone can ask, anyone can answer. Seed it with 5-10 real questions and answers about your business (hours, pricing range, parking, what to bring, etc.). Monitor it weekly so a random person doesn't answer for you incorrectly.
How long until you see results?
If your GBP is in bad shape today and you do all 10 of these steps in the next 2 weeks, expect noticeable ranking improvements in 30-60 days and major changes in 90 days. Google Business Profile is the highest-leverage marketing work a small business can do — and it's free.
